First Art Lesson
I attended my very first art lesson, beyond those taught pre-GCSE, yesterday.
Far from being harrowing, I just chatted with my tutor, one Georgia Peskett, about what I wanted to achieve and what I’d been working on so far.
One thing I’ve always wanted to able able to do, is produce a decent sketch of the human form. So far I’ve been able to do kinda reasonable facsimiles, but they are always lacking form, and look unbalanced and gangly. What I want to work on is being able to see a pose and replicate it in sketch form. It’s a skill I have enormous envy of.
So what we’re working on is copying figure drawings, getting proportions and angles right and creating form. I want to progress to drawing life models, but I need to get my shit in order first.
So here’s what I churned out on my first time:
This one is a drawing of a photograph, just some guy walking down a pavement in front of roadworks, think I managed to get the pose down pretty well. This one was drawn with a clutch pencil, I don’t know how hard the lead was.
This one was a copy of an old figure drawing by an artist I can’t remember the name of. Had so much trouble with the right arm and shoulders. This one was drawn with one of my Blackwing 602s.
